Consequences of Prayer in Luke and Acts
After performing the story in Acts 12 with Peter being rescued from the prison - it struck me how much Luke associates pray with ground-breaking events or answers of prayer. Each one of these results of prayer profoundly changed history forever.
Here's some I could find in Luke - (see search results)
- The Conception of John the Baptist (Luke 1:10, 1:13)
- The Redemption of Jerusalem through the coming of Jesus (Luke 2:36-38)
- Jesus receives the Spirit (Luke 3:21)
- Jesus' teaching and healing ministry (Luke 5:16)
- The choice of the 12 Apostles (Luke 6:12-13)
- Peter confesses that Jesus is the Messiah (Luke 9:18-20)
- The Transfiguration (Luke 9:28)
- The Strengthening of Peter (Luke 22:32)
- Gethsemane then the Cross (Luke 22:41)
Likewise in Acts - (see search results)
- The choice of Matthias (Acts 1:24)
- The coming of the Spirit (Acts 1:14, 2:1)
- The growth of the Early Church (Acts 2:42)
- Boldness to preach (Acts 4:31)
- The Spirit is given to the Samaritans (Acts 8:15)
- The healing and conversion of Saul (Acts 9:11)
- Cornelius' Conversion (Acts 10:2, Acts 10:5, Acts 10:30)
- Peter is given a vision showing that Gentiles are acceptable to God (Acts 10:9)
- The miraculous release/escape of Peter (Acts 12:5, Acts 12:12)
- Saul and Barnabas chosen for the first missionary journey (Acts 13:3)
- The choice of elders in new churches (Acts 14:23)
- The Earthquake and the conversion of the Phillipian Jailor (Acts 16:25)
- The warning to Paul to leave Jerusalem (Acts 22:17)
- The healing of the Maltese Official's Father (Acts 28:8)
I guess we shouldn't be surprised: Seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. Luke 11:9
